Give yourself “pumpkin” to do this weekend and check out these places within driving distance of DC. Many of them offer the opportunity to pick both apples and pumpkins, along with other fall festivities!
Homestead Farm

Distance From DC: About 24 miles.
Pumpkins: $.59 per pound.
Apples: Fuji, Cameo, Enterprise, Suncrisp, Jonagold. $1.99 per pound ($1.69 per pound if over 20 pounds, $1.49 per pound if over 40 pounds).
Extra Fall Fun: In the market, Homestead has done the hard work for you and has some pre-picked apples and pumpkins, as well as apple cider, vegetables, mums and decorative gourds.
Hours: Open every day in October. Weekday hours are 9 am to 6 pm (no pick-your-owns after 5 PM) and weekends 9 am to 5 pm.
Admission: $4 per person if you take advantage of the hayride to the pumpkin patch, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on weekends.
Butler’s Orchard

Distance From DC: 29 miles.
Pumpkins: $.65 per pound.
Apples: In the farm market they have Honeycrisp, Cortland, Crimson Crisp, Gala, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Empire, and Hudson Golden Gem. Regular-season apples are 2.69 per pound, Honeycrisps are $3.49 per pound. Pick-your-own is finished for the season.
Extra Fall Fun: Pumpkin Festival (October 1, 7-9, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29), reserve your own bonfire, and there are sheep, miniature donkeys, goats, chickens and a pig.
Hours: Tuesday through Sunday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Admission: $3 per person.
Larriland Farm

Distance From DC: About 42 miles.
Pumpkins: Lots of pumpkins to pick from. According to Larriland’s website, there was a good pumpkin crop this year.
Apples: Magnolia Gold, Cameo, IdaRed, Stayman, Mutsu, Suncrisp, Braeburn, Fuji, Enterprise, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Gold Rush.
Extra Fall Fun: A maze built with square and round bales, “The Boo Barn,” a dark cellar in the barn (ages 3-6), hayrides on weekends (9:30 am to 4 PM), and treats such as apple fritters and hamburgers are for sale on weekends.
Hours: Tuesday-Friday 9 am to 6 PM, weekends 9 am to 5 pm.
Good to Know: The farm recommends you call ahead of time to make sure the weather is cooperating and to see what is available.
Stribling Orchard

Pumpkins: Both large and pie pumpkins are available.
Apples: McIntosh, Cortland, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Grimes Golden, Jonathan, Empire, Newtown Pippin, and Stayman. 1-20lbs, $1.50 per pound.
Extra Fall Fun: The bakery is open on weekends, where you can purchase jams, salsas, apple butter, pumpkin butter, fresh breads and pies, and other pastries.
Hours: Tuesday through Sunday,9 am to 5 pm.
Great Country Farms

Pumpkins: $.59 per pound.
Apples: Gala, Jonagold, Jonafree, Candy Crisp, Ruby Jon, and a variety of Fuji for $1.99 per pound.
Hours: Open daily 9 am to 5 pm.
Admission: Weekdays $8/child, $10/adult, weekends $10/child, $12/adult.
Rock Hill Orchard

Distance From DC: About 36 miles.
Pumpkins: Pick your own on the weekends, $.59 per pound
Apples: Small bag (5-6 pounds, 2 guests) $12, medium bag (11-12 pounds, up to 4 guests) $21, large bag (22-24 pounds, up to 6 guests) $34.
Extra Fall Fun: Maryland’s only made-on-farm ice cream, a pumpkin cannon, and a corn maze.
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10 am to 6 PM, Sunday 10 am to 5 pm. Pick-your-own fields close at 4 pm.
Good to Know: These hours are through October 31, hours will change in November.
Baugher’s Orchards and Farms

Pumpkins: $.49 per pound.
Apples: Empire, Fuji, Staymen Winesap, Golden Delicious, Gala, Granny Smith, Ida Red, Jonagold, and Red Delicious. $1.29 per pound.
Extra Fall Fun: There is a harvest festival every weekend in October with a petting zoo, pony rides, homemade baked goods (and ice cream!), pit beef, burgers, and music. You can also take a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch and apple orchard.
Hours: Apple and Pumpkin festival, October weekends, 10 am to 5 PM; market is open every day 8 am to 6 pm.
Admission: Wagon trips to the pumpkin patch and apple orchard are $2 each, per person.
Good to Know: Baugher’s recommends you call first if you intend to pick your own to check the weather as well as what is available.
Gaver Farm

Apples: Prices are by the bag. A peck is $20 and half-bushel bag is $32.
Extra Fall Fun: Free hayrides to and from the pumpkin patch, running continuously 10 am to 6 pm on weekends and on a schedule during week days from noon to 6 pm. There is also a farm market with pre-picked pumpkins, specialty pumpkins, apples, squash and gourds, among others.
Hours: Pumpkin patch is open 10 am to 6 pm everyday.
Hartland Orchard

Pumpkins: $.50 per pound, cooking pumpkins are $3 each.
Apples: $15 per half bushel.

Admission: Fall Festival tickets are $10 per person.
Catocin Mountain Orchard

Pumpkins: Pricing goes by size, each pumpkin is marked.
Apples: Honeycrisp, Cortland, Crimson Crisp, Red Delicious. Get a half peck (5-6 pounds) for $12, a peck (11-12 pounds) for $19, or a half bushel (20-22 pounds) for $30.
Extra Fall Fun: A “cut your own” flower garden and a bakery.
Hours: Through October, weekdays 9 am to 5 PM, weekends 9 am to 9 pm. Pick your own apples on weekends only.
Admission: Entrance fee to the pick your own apple orchard is $2, and gets you a wagon ride to and from the field.
