Recognize Skin Cancer Awareness Month With These Lifestyle Tips

By May 7, 2024No Comments

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, over 5 million people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the United States every year. This makes skin cancer the nation’s most common form of cancer.

To shed light on this condition, Skin Cancer Awareness Month takes place every May and aims to help people understand various risks and prevention methods.

In commemoration of this year’s Skin Cancer Awareness Month, consider implementing the following guidance into your daily life:

  • Check the forecast before heading out for the day.
  • Schedule outdoor activities to avoid peak sunlight hours, such as early in the morning or in the evening.
  • Apply sunscreen with at least 30 SPF and reapply at least every two hours or as needed, such as if you are swimming.  Wear long sleeves and brimmed hats to cover more of your skin from the sun.
  • If you must be outdoors during sunny conditions, locate a shady area or use an umbrella or awning to create your own.

If you observe any changes in your skin, such as a spot or mole that has changed color, you should contact a medical professional as soon as possible.
